Minimum Age Required for Kindergarten and First Grade

A child who is five years of age on or before the first day of a school year may be admitted to kindergarten at the beginning of that school year. If a child is not five years of age on or before the first day of a school year, the child must not be admitted to kindergarten.

If a child is not six years of age on or before the first day of a school year, the child must not be admitted to the first grade until the beginning of the school year following the child’s sixth birthday.

Please take a moment to review the new kindergarten law for additional information.
